Essential Beliefs

First Baptist Church accepts the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments (the Christian Bible) as the inspired record of God’s revelatory actions in human history and as the authoritative basis for its doctrine and practices.

The ordinances of this church are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion/Eucharist). Baptism shall be my immersion. The Lord’s Supper is observed monthly or more often if the church so desires.

First Baptist Church has adopted the following Covenant as a means by which its members may express their intent to accept the Lordship of Jesus the Christ in the life of the church and in the affairs and ministries of daily life and service.

Scriptures

We believe that the Holy Bible was written by divinely inspired individuals and is a perfect treasure of heavenly instruction; that it has God as its author, salvation for its end, and truth without any mixture of error for its matter; that it reveals the principles by which God will judge, and therefore is and shall remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions shall be tried. (Proverbs 2:6; Matthew 4:1-4; John 1:1-5, 14; John 6:35; 2 Timothy 3:16; James 1:18, 2 Peter 1:20-21; 1 John 1:1)

The Godhead

We believe the Scriptures teach there is only one, living and true God, an infinite intelligent Spirit, whose name is “YHWH” (Yahweh), the Maker and Supreme ruler of heaven and earth; inexpressibly glorious in holiness and worthy of all possible honor, confidence, and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are three, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; equal in every divine perfection, and executing distinct but harmonious offices in the great work of redemption.(Matthew 3:16-17; Mark 12:29-30; John 10:25-31, 15:26-27; Galatians 5:22-26)

The Fall of Man

We believe the Scriptures teach that mankind was created in holiness, under the law of God; but by voluntary transgressions, fell from that holy and joyous state; in consequence of which all humans are sinners, and positively inclined to evil. We further believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly by grace, who through the Son of God (Jesus the Christ), by appointment of the Father, freely took on the sins of the world; and that Jesus honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and by His death made a full atonement for our sins, that having risen from the dead, he is enthroned in heaven and is in every way well qualified to be a suitable, compassionate, and all sufficient Savior of the world. The Church

The World to Come

We believe the Scriptures teach that the end of the present world is inevitable; that at the last day, Christ himself will descend from Heaven, and raise the dead from the grave for final retribution; that a solemn separation will then take place; that the wicked will be adjudged to endless punishment, and the righteous to endless joy; and that this judgment will fix forever the final state of men in heaven or hell, on principles of righteous. (Acts 1:11b; Titus 2:13; Revelation 22:20; Matthew 24:43-44; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7b-9; 2 Corinthians 15:55-57; John 14:1-3; John 11:25-26; Matthew 25:31-33).
